PERFIL EPIDEMIOLÓGICO DA MORTALIDADE POR ACIDENTE VASCULAR CEREBRAL NO BRASIL: DESIGUALDADES REGIONAIS E PERSPECTIVAS FISIOTERAPÊUTICAS.
ABSTRACT Stroke is one of the leading causes of mortality and disability in Brazil, with significant regional variations. This study aimed to analyze the epidemiological profile of stroke mortality in the North, Northeast, and South regions, highlighting regional inequalities and the role of physical therapy. This is a descriptive and quantitative study based on secondary data from the Mortality Information System (SIM/DATASUS) from 2019 to 2023. The variables analyzed were sex, age group, race/skin color, and year of death. Results showed higher mortality in the Northeast (60.1% of deaths), followed by the South and North, reflecting socioeconomic inequalities, disparities in healthcare access, and the prevalence of risk factors. Deaths were more frequent among elderly individuals, men, and those self-declared as brown, emphasizing the impact of population aging and social determinants of health. It is concluded that stroke remains a relevant public health issue, requiring policies tailored to regional specificities, with emphasis on preventive strategies and the expansion of access to physical therapy rehabilitation, which is essential to reduce morbidity, improve functionality, and enhance patients’ quality of life.
