A NOVEL APPROACH TO THE DOCTOR-PATIENT BOND COMBINING SPIRITUAL, INTUITIVE, AND HOLISTIC ASPECTS
This chapter offers a thorough framework for rethinking the doctor-patient relationship as a sacred, life-changing experience that incorporates the social, psychological, spiritual, and neurobiological aspects of healing. It presents a perspective that goes beyond the constraints of the existing biological model by drawing on the author's vast body of work, which includes everything from theological musings and clinical practice improvements to neuroscience and trauma research. The framework tackles the issue of fragmentation in modern healthcare by reinstating intuition and imagination as valid forms of clinical knowledge, re-establishing the spiritual aspect of the healing interaction, and redefining the therapeutic relationship as a covenantal bond instead of a contractual transaction. The chapter positions this integrative approach within the wider academic context, comparing it to conventional biomedical ethics, narrative medicine, and technological methodologies in healthcare. This vision can be realised through educational reform, systemic changes, and support for physician grief work. By tackling both the philosophical underpinnings and practical consequences of an altered therapeutic relationship, this chapter offers a distinctive transdisciplinary viewpoint to current initiatives aimed at make healthcare more personal and bring significance back to the healing professions.
