Work Environment and Employee Performance in Jalingo Local Government Area of Taraba State: The Interface
This study investigates the impact of the work environment on employee performance in Jalingo Local Government Area (LGA) of Taraba State, Nigeria. Recognizing the pivotal role of environmental factors in shaping employee behavior and output, the research employed a survey design using structured questionnaires administered to a sample of 296 staff members drawn from a population of 1,138. The questionnaire consisted of two sections: biodata and variables measuring the physical work environment, psychosocial factors, organizational support, and employee performance. Data were analyzed using the regression analysis, with findings presented through descriptive statistics, Pearson correlation, and multiple regression analysis. The results revealed strong positive relationships between all dimensions of the work environment and employee performance, with organizational support exerting the highest predictive influence. These findings corroborate existing literature, which affirms that conducive work conditions enhance job satisfaction, motivation, and output. The study concludes that improving the work environment is vital for effective public service delivery and recommends investments in infrastructure, staff welfare, and human resource development. The research contributes to literature by filling contextual gaps in local government settings and offers practical implications for policymakers and administrators in the Nigerian public sector.
