Signed Blue-and-White Qajar Pottery from the First Half of the Nineteenth Century: Stylistics, Epigraphy, and Context

Abstract Despite gaining increased attention in recent scholarship, ceramics from the Qajar period in Iran remain relatively underexplored. This article examines signed early nineteenth-century ceramics that continue the Safavid tradition of blue-and-white pottery. The primary aim of this study is to situate these ceramics within the broader historical context of Iranian ceramic production. Additionally, it provides insights into the cultural significance of these pieces through a detailed analysis of their epigraphy, drawing on materials from various European museums and private collections, including previously understudied Russian collections.
