Analysis of Leading Food Crop Commodities in Regencies/Cities of Southeast Sulawesi Province

This study aims to analyze the leading commodities in the food crop subsector across regencies and cities in Southeast Sulawesi Province. The research employs a quantitative descriptive approach using secondary data obtained from the Central Statistics Agency (BPS) and the Southeast Sulawesi Provincial Agriculture Office. The analysis is conducted using the Location Quotient (LQ) method to identify commodities with comparative advantages and the Shift Share (SS) method to determine the growth and competitiveness of these commodities over time. The results show that several commodities, such as rice, corn, and cassava, dominate as leading food crops in certain regencies/cities, supported by favorable agroecological conditions and local agricultural practices. However, the competitiveness and growth rates of these commodities vary significantly between regions, indicating the need for region-specific development strategies. The findings are expected to serve as a reference for policymakers in formulating targeted agricultural development programs to enhance productivity, ensure food security, and improve farmers’ welfare in Southeast Sulawesi.
