IAM4RE D2.1 - Map and analysis of current best practices and training materials in KV and Standardisation, based on key projects and successful implementations

This deliverable presents the results of Task 2.1 under Work Package 2 (WP2) of the IAM4RE.eu project, funded by the Horizon Europe programme (Grant Agreement No. 101206372). It provides a comprehensive mapping and analysis of current best practices and training resources in Knowledge Valorisation (KV) and Standardisation, complemented by a needs assessment based on desk research and expert interviews. The report identifies persistent gaps, opportunities, and design requirements to inform IAM4RE’s forthcoming training tools and services. Findings reveal that although awareness of KV and standardisation is growing in Europe, training provision remains fragmented, with limited institutional embedding and a lack of scalable, long-term capacity-building models—particularly in the field of standardisation. A curated set of 30 best practices was classified across target groups, institutional types, and thematic focus areas, and enriched by insights from eight expert interviews. Key conclusions highlight: Standardisation as an underrepresented element in R&I training ecosystems; Fragmented and siloed approaches to valorisation, often lacking progression pathways; Limited support for non-patent assets and interdisciplinary valorisation, especially in SSH; A strong need for train-the-trainer models and institutional capacity-building tools. Based on these insights, IAM4RE will develop a modular Training Suite, MOOC, Train-the-Trainer Programme, and institutional service tools aligned with EU policies such as the ERA Policy Agenda, the Codes of Practice on Intellectual Assets and Standardisation, and the EU Standardisation Strategy. Deliverable D2.1 thus establishes the evidence base for IAM4RE’s mission to strengthen impact-driven, standardisation-aware knowledge valorisation capacities across Europe’s research and innovation ecosystems. Keywords:Knowledge Valorisation; Standardisation; Capacity Building; Intellectual Asset Management; Higher Education Institutions; Public Research Organisations; Training Best Practices; EU Policy; Research and Innovation; ERA Policy Agenda; IAM4RE.eu; Horizon Europe.
