An Entropy-Driven Feedback Control Framework for Autonomous Self-Healing Mechanical Structures
This paper presents a thermodynamically grounded feedback-control framework that uses entropy as a quantitative metric for damage detection and self-healing in mechanical structures. By coupling multiphysics simulations in COMSOL with entropy-regulated actuation, the study demonstrates how entropy can guide healing actions to restore order and mitigate fatigue damage. Simulation results show a 50 % reduction in entropy generation and a threefold improvement in structural durability compared to uncontrolled systems. The framework unifies structural health monitoring and active control into an entropy-driven paradigm for intelligent, self-repairing materials.
