Trauma and the Born-of-Suffering Mechanism in Evolutionary Psychoanalysis
Within evolutionary psychoanalysis, trauma is more than a pathological response; it is a functional, encoded threat signal. For certain individuals, the born-of-suffering pathway converts this encoded threat into adaptive prosocial action, providing validation, restoring agency, and promoting psychological growth. This mechanism is scientifically plausible, logically coherent, and fully testable, offering a robust explanation for the link between trauma and altruistic behavior in human evolution and contemporary society.
