BinGo - A Smart Waste Management System
BinGo is a smart waste management system aimed at improving the efficiency and safety of urban waste collection. The system uses sensors to monitor bin status, including fill levels, hazardous gases, odors, and fallen bins. This real-time data is sent to a backend server and processed to generate optimized garbage collection routes. A dedicated mobile app is developed for garbage truck drivers to access these routes, allowing them to prioritize bins that need urgent attention. This helps reduce unnecessary collection trips and improves overall operational efficiency. For citizens, QR codes are placed on each bin to link them to a web-based platform. This platform helps users find the nearest available bin when the current one is full, encouraging proper waste disposal and improving cleanliness in public spaces. The prototype was developed in five phases: building the hardware, setting up the server, connecting the bin subsystem, developing the driver app, and creating citizen guidance tools. BinGo offers a smart, scalable solution to modern waste management challenges. All the set requirements were met, and the system showed successful performance upon extensive testing. Although challenges were faced, the system provides an efficient, and practical solution for the targeted problem and meets with the goal of engineering in making life easier.
