We know the Indian society is based on a caste system with massive inequalities in social, economic and political spheres. In ancient times scheduled caste were known by various names like avarna, shudra, ashprushya etc. The term “scheduled caste” is standardized in the constitution of the republic India. Scheduled castes are the depressed section of population. There is very low possibility of absence of stratification in society in the whole world but in our India stratification is something different to other countries that is untouchability which is defined by the caste of a person. Here the researcher has tried to explore the present social and educational status of this section of the people in our country which contributed 16.6% of the total population of our country. Researcher has used secondary sources of books, journals, articles, census report to complete the work.
