LINEAR PROPERTY OF lnZ(μ,V,T): AN ANALYSIS FROM THE BASIC PRINCIPLES OF STATISTICAL MECHANICS

The basic postulates of statistical mechanics and the ensemble theory, especially, the grand canonical properties are reviewed in a concise way. Division of a grand canonical system into a finite number of sub-systems of equal volume shows that the natural logarithm of the grand canonical partition function is linear in , the volume of the grand canonical system under consideration. We do this from the basic knowledge of statistical mechanics and then conclude with statistical interpretation.

Abstract

The basic postulates of statistical mechanics and the ensemble theory, especially, the grand canonical properties are reviewed in a concise way. Division of a grand canonical system into a finite number of sub-systems of equal volume shows that the natural logarithm of the grand canonical partition function is linear in , the volume of the grand canonical system under consideration. We do this from the basic knowledge of statistical mechanics and then conclude with statistical interpretation.
