Cover Feature: Surface Plasmon Resonance Allows to Correlate Molecular Properties With Diffusion Coefficients of Linear Chain Alcohols (Chem. Eur. J. 56/2024)
The concentration profile developing inside the tubing system of an SPR system has been detected through newly designed D-SPR experiments. It is therefore possible to determine the diffusion coefficients of linear chain molecules in water and correlate them to molecular structure. The proposed model, based on Eyring's theory of absolute rates, introduces a fitting parameter, R, to explore the interplay between intermolecular forces, rotational hindrance and diffusion in aqueous solutions of linear chain organic molecules.
