Synnevrus barrei Schmid-Egger & Al-Jahdhami 2025, comb. nov.

Synnevrus barrei (Radoszkowski, 1893), comb. nov. (Figs 22–24, 34) Nysson barrei Radoszkowski, 1893:71, ♂. Holotype or syntypes: ♂, Turkmenistan: Serax (Kraków). Material examined: OMAN 2 ♀ 19.iii.2019; 1 ♀ 03.v.2019; 1 ♀ 05.vii.2019 Al Mudhaibi, Samad Ashan, Al Akhdhar 22.84 N, 58,17 E, leg. AJ (AJ / CSE); 4 ♀ 11.iii.2023 Hamman, 13 km SW Muscat 23.470 N, 58,319 E, leg. M. Halada (CSE); 1 ♀ 21.iii.2023 20 km SE Sur 22.454 N, 59.625 E, leg. M. Halada (CSE). SAUDI ARABIA: 2 ♂ 3 ♀ Jizan Pr., 18 km N Baish 17.52N 42.56E, leg M. Halada (CSE). UNITED ARAB EMIRATES: 1 ♀ 15– 18.iv.1984; 1 ♂ 26–30.iv.1984 Dubai /al-Awir, 1 ♀ 16.vi.2009 Wadi Wurayah, leg. T.v.Harten (CSE). Recognition: Synnevrus barrei can be easily recognized by the red mesosoma. This is predominantly black in the other species, except for the yellow markings. Two males have each a yellow spot on the clypeus laterally, the third male has an all black clypeus. Distribution: Algeria, Azerbaijan, Central Asia, Iran, Oman, Saudi Arabia, UAE (Fig. 34). The records from Oman and Saudi Arabia are the first records for these countries. Remark: The species was formerly placed in Synnevrus, which was synonymized with Nysson by Nemkov & Leley (2013), and the corresponding species were consequently placed in Nysson (Nemkov 2017). However, we consider Synnevrus to be a valid genus and the species is again listed under this genus. See introduction for details. The specimens from the UAE were already published by Schmid-Egger (2011, 2014).
