Design, Preparation, Characterization, and Solubility Determination of Oxcarbazepine‐Naringenin Cocrystal

Abstract This study aimed to design, prepare, and characterize oxcarbazepine‐naringenin (OXCBZ‐NR) cocrystal and evaluate its dissolution properties. Cocrystals were synthesized via liquid‐assisted grinding and solution crystallization method, with formation confirmed by PXRD, thermal analysis, and FT‐IR. HPLC analyses verified high‐purity cocrystals of 1:1 equivalent. In dissolution studies, the cocrystal demonstrated superior performance across the three solutions, exhibiting an equilibrium solubility at pH = 1.2 hydrochloric acid solution that was 1.28 times greater than that of OXCBZ. In addition, the cocrystal was well stabilized under high temperature and high humidity conditions. Not only the joint application of drugs is realized through the formation of the cocrystal, but also the physicochemical properties and pharmacological effects of the drugs are optimized. As a result, a ″1 + 1 > 2″ efficacy of the drugs can be achieved. It`s promising for cocrystal possesses in potential application and development prospect.
