Crypto Payments for Content and the Future of Broadcasting Monetisation

This paper explored the potential of cryptocurrency payments and blockchain-based systems as innovative monetisation mechanisms for broadcasting. Drawing from academic literature, industry reports and case analyses, the study identified key opportunities, including micropayments, tokenised ecosystems, transparency in royalty distribution and global accessibility. Findings suggested that crypto payments can democratise content consumption and strengthen creator-audience relationships by enabling flexible, low-cost and borderless transactions. However, significant challenges remain, particularly volatility, regulatory uncertainty, scalability and user adoption barriers. The researchers concluded that while crypto is unlikely to replace existing monetisation models in the short term, hybrid frameworks integrating fiat and crypto payments offer a pragmatic pathway forward.
