Angelo Clareno traducteur de Macaire

Project TRANSMAR “Angelo Clareno (ca. 1260-1337) as a marginal Translator of the Greek Fathers: Circulation of Texts and People in Europe before Humanism”. HORIZON-MSCA-2022-PF-01 101105680 Contrary to what Angelo Clareno and his contemporaries believed, the Great Letter and the One Hundred and Fifty Chapters he translated are not by Macarius but by a Pseudo-Macarius (or Macarius-Symeon). His translations are the only known medieval Latin versions. Apart from references in Clareno’s own writings, they had little circulation. The Epistula magna survives in a single manuscript; the Capitula centum quinquaginta in eight complete manuscripts and one with only the titles. For each translation, a detailed record is provided, including the identification of the Greek text (author, title, CPG number, links to the PINAKES database of Greek manuscripts), the list of Latin manuscript witnesses, the Latin titles, the incipit and explicit, as well as the presumed date and place of the translation, accompanied by a concise bibliography.https://journals.openedition.org/oliviana/1669
