DAP / Re:Search_2020.2025 : Digital Architecture, Digital Landscape Architecture, Digital Planning : Research Review of the Department of Digital Architecture and Planning
The Research Department of Digital Architecture and Planning focuses thematically on strategic priority topics of TU Wien specifically and society in general. These topics address equitable urban futures, sustainability, circular economy, climate neutrality, ecology and biodiversity, human health and well-being, and digital transformation. The latter includes especially the potential role and impact of Artificial Intelligence (AI), the Internet of Things (IoT), Digital Twins, availability of Big Data and heterogeneous datasets, and data-driven algorithmic planning and design processes, all in the service of pursuing the strategic themes along multiple inter- and transdisciplinary trajectories. This effort is supported by the fact that the research department combines domain expertise in planning, architecture, and computer science, as well as by foregrounding networking and collaborating with a broad range of other disciplines that are relevant to our strategic pursuit. This volume presents research activities by the department over the period from 2020 to 2025. The aim is to present an overview and to effectively share our research activities and aims, and particularly intended qualitative impact, with the professional and academic communities within and beyond TU Wien. As such, the primary goal of this volume is to proactively offer a springboard for future activities and collaborations. In a more modest way, this volume may between the lines suggest interdisciplinary trajectories along which the disciplines of planning and architecture may evolve, thereby enabling reflection on future practice and education.
