EFFECT OF COLLOCATION TECHNIQUE ON TEACHING AND LEARNING VOCABULARY: THE CASE OF BULE HORA SENIOR SECONDARY SCHOOL GRADE 11 IN FOCUS

ABSTRACT: The main purpose of the study was to examine the effect of collocation technique on teaching and learning vocabulary with special reference to grade eleven students at Bule Hora Senior secondary school. The study used single case-experimental research design. The total numbers of students" was forty. The tools that used to collect the data were tests. Then the researcher has been used two tests, pre-test and post-test to collect the data. The collected data were analyzed as per the research question. The findings revealed that students significantly outperformed after the treatment, demonstrating that using collocation technique was quite successful in helping the learners to improve their vocabulary knowledge. The finding indicated that after the treatment the learners" ability using collocation was significantly higher than their ability before treatment. Based on the findings, it was recommended that using collocation will foster the teaching and learning process of vocabulary. Language teachers need to use collocations in order to help learners acquire the language more quickly and efficiently. Moreover, Students should be encouraged to use collocation technique which will lead them to be independent to learn vocabulary.
