THE IMPLEMENTATION OF INTEGERATIED LANGUAGE SKILLS IN THE TEACHING OF ENGLISH THE CASE OF GRADE 9th AT WOMA SECONDARY SCHOOL
Abstract: The goal of this study was the implementation integrated-skills teaching/learning process at grade nine level Woma Secondary School, and the study has a descriptive research design because it explains and reports the real integrated-skills teaching/learning process of the participants. Six instructors who are teaching grade 9 at the study school were chosen by the researcher using total population sampling. Additionally, the researcher used systematic random sampling to choose 305 students from a pool of candidates in order to examine the effectiveness of the integrated skills teaching and learning process. Together with the 61 grade nine pupils enrolled in the school, English language instructors taught English at the grade nine level The semi-structured questioning, observation, and interviews were used to gather the data. Two sets of questionnaires were used as the main data collection tools to gather the required data for the study. Besides, questionnaire, classroom observation and interview were applied as supporting tools to triangulate the outcomes of the questionnaires. The survey also revealed that teachers rarely taught four language skills in integration in reading, listening, speaking, and writing sessions; instead, they occasionally taught two language skills. The study also demonstrated that the majority of teachers struggled to fulfill their "managerial roles" when they taught language skills in integration, and they hardly ever used a variety of teaching resources. In terms of the new Teacher's Guide's contribution to integrated-skills teaching and learning, the study found that it generated an environment that was conducive to integrated-skills teaching and learning in the classroom. The revised Teacher's Guide, however, was not in the teacher possession. The study's findings are significant because they can help English language instructors revaluate how they teach, provide information to interested parties, and possibly raise the standard of English language instruction in high schools. Finally, the results of the study were important to other researchers who are eager to carry out a study in this field in the future.
