The Culture-oriented Nursing Theory of Chun Jung hwan emeritus professor : as an application of Leininger's Theory of Nursing theory

Until the Middle Ages, there was no concept of professional nursing as care, and since Nightingale attempted to specialize nursing, various nursing theories based on science emerged. Reininger laid the groundwork for respecting the folk practices of clients in nursing, arguing for transcultural nursing theory with a cultural and humanistic approach. These nursing theories can be applied in various ways depending on the characteristics of correction. Correctional care that respects the folk medical practices of prisoners is important in that correctional care can be linked to the re-socialization of prisoners only when it is consumer-oriented nursing that respects the medical sovereignty of prisoners. Nevertheless, the history of Korean prison medicine has been dominated by value-neutral medical technology. As a result, there has been a limit to individualized medical treatment and medical resocialization based on cultural sensitivity because it is consistent with deculturalized standardized medical care that does not take into account the cultural characteristics of the inmate.Due to the increase in the number of foreign prisoners and the strengthening of the human rights of prisoners there has been a limit to the improvement of the medical satisfaction of the prisoners who are diversified by the conventional culture-blind, standardized mass-produced correction treatment. Therefore, Leininger's transcultural nursing theory, which is approached on the basis of understanding the medical and cultural characteristics of prisoners, has sufficient significance in correction nursing, but there has been no research on correctional nursing based on Leininger's transcultural nursing theory in domestic and international studies on correctional nursing by 2024. For the first time, I used Leininger's nursing theory and theorized it as cultural correctional nursing.First of all, I introduced Leininger's nursing theory and criticized it from an original point of view, and described the implications and limitations creatively. Lininger's nursing theory, unlike conventional scholars, has contributed significantly to a medical anthropological and cultural approach other than nursing. The purpose is to point out the problem of the existing studies lacking a cultural correctional nursing perspective and to suggest the necessity of cultural correctional nursing on the direction of respecting such intention if the client with internalized medical and cultural customs desires. The research method was a literature review and the approach was an interdisciplinary approach. In conclusion, I creatively suggested the direction of culture-oriented correctional nursing.I criticized her theory for lacking an interdisciplinary perspective, such as a sociological perspective and a lack of a medical economic approach that takes into account opportunity costs such as sociopsychological factors occuring between clients and healthcare personneland time required for implementation. The premise is to de-commodify, de-bureaucratize, de-politicize, de-medical imperialist power and secure enough correctionalmedical personnel, improve cultural nursing capacity, and establish correctional integrated medicine that includes oriental medicine.
