ACUTE RHEUMATOID FEVER
Acute Rheumatic Fever (ARF) is an autoimmune inflammatory disorder following Streptococcus pyogenes infection, affecting the heart, joints, skin, and nervous system. Management focuses on symptom relief and prevention of recurrence. NSAIDs control fever and arthritis, glucocorticoids treat severe carditis, and antibiotics, particularly benzathine penicillin, eradicate infection and provide long-term prophylaxis. Understanding the mechanisms, indications, dosing, and side effects of these drugs is crucial for effective care. Early diagnosis and timely treatment significantly reduce morbidity and prevent progression to rheumatic heart disease.
