Performance and carcass characteristics of broiler finisher chickens fed diets containing soya bean sludge (SBS) supplemented with or without enzyme under semi-arid environment

A study was carried out to determine the efficacy of soya bean sludge (SBS) supplemented with Kingzyme® at finisher phase (4th – 8th weeks). A total of three hundred and sixty (360) day old Cobb 500 broiler chickens were randomly allotted to four (4) dietary treatments containing 18% soya bean sludge meal supplemented with enzyme (Kingzyme®) with different levels of supplementation designated as 0, 25, 30 and 35g. Each treatment was replicated thrice with thirty (30) birds per replica in completely randomize design (CRD). The results of performance revealed no statistical (P<0.05) difference among all parameters, with the exception of final weight and daily feed intake, respectively were observed in supplementation. The control group (0g) and 30g Kingxyme® supplementation levels recorded similar values (1882.33 and 1803.67kg) and (73.98 and 73.77 g/bird) for final weight and daily feed intake respectively. The carcass traits showed no significant (P>0.05) differences among the treatment groups for all the components except for mean live weight, dressed weight, head, shanks and spleen. However, the dressing percentage value (86.63%) was better at 25g/100kg level of supplementation while the lower value (76.12%) was recorded at 30g/100kg Kingzyme® supplementation. Therefore, better performance and carcass observed may be attributed to the test material and effect of exogenous enzyme (Kingzyme®) supplementation in the diets of broiler chickens.

A study was carried out to determine the efficacy of soya bean sludge (SBS) supplemented with Kingzyme® at finisher phase (4th – 8th weeks).
