The role and place of law enforcement agencies in preventing electoral crimes

Approaching such a topic presents particular scientific interest, as it concerns a legal field that has been very little explored. The relevance of this topic is confirmed by the worrying increase in the phenomenon of electoral crime observed in recent years, in parallel with the growth and diversification of election types in our country. An in-depth analysis of electoral crimes represents, in our opinion, a real challenge, given society's reaction to the negative consequences of this generalized scourge, as well as the lack of principles that would guide the activity of judicial bodies in combating this phenomenon. Preventing and combating electoral crimes is a priority aspect for any legislative system. However, in the Republic of Moldova, this phenomenon has gained momentum over the last two decades, in the context of the political regime change in 1989. The transition period from a communist system to a democratic one highlighted serious slippages, including in the matter of the legal exercise of electoral rights.
