Mapping the Future of Holographic and Extended Reality Technologies in Sustainable Business: A VOSviewer-Based Bibliometric Analysis

Abstract: This study offers a bibliometric analysis of research on holograms and Extended Reality (XR) technologies in business from 2020 to 2025. Using a systematic search across databases like Scopus and Google Scholar, an initial total of 1,639 documents was filtered down to 146 journal articles and 40 conference proceedings based on criteria focusing on empirical, original research. The analysis reveals significant growth in hologram applications across sectors such as manufacturing, retail, healthcare, and marketing. Early studies focused on technological development, including 3D printing and additive manufacturing, while recent research emphasizes sustainability, circular economy, and eco-friendly business practices. Key themes include product design, supply chain management, virtual collaboration, and customer engagement. The study also identifies research gaps, such as limited exploration of hologram cost-effectiveness for small businesses and user experience aspects in marketing. The findings of this study, reveals that the interdisciplinary collaboration across fields such as computer science, business, and design driving innovation. The analysis suggests for future study, researcher should explore in the area of economic viability, consumer interaction, and sustainability strategies to maximize holograms' potential in encouragement of sustainable growth and enhanced customer experiences. This bibliometric approach also provides valuable insights for academics, practitioners, and policymakers on the role of holograms in business.
