The importance of memory in the learning process
Memory is a crucial cognitive process for an individual's adaptation to the environment and academic success, contributing to the development of both intelligence and personality. This study examines the impact of the predominant type of memory on academic performance, exploring the relationship between auditory, visual, and semantic memory and school achievement, as well as the factors influencing students' memory capacity. The research was conducted between December 2022 and April 2023 and included 227 participants: 153 students, 46 teachers, and 28 parents. Questionnaires were administered online, while memory tests were conducted in physical format. Specific methods were used to assess visual, auditory, and semantic memory, alongside analyses of memory perception and its influence on academic performance. The results indicate that 65% of students believe memory significantly impacts academic success. The primary factor in improving memory and academic performance is students' interest in the taught material, according to students, teachers, and parents. Additionally, it was found that auditory and semantic memory have a significant influence on school performance, whereas visual memory did not show the same correlation. The conclusions highlight the importance of adapting educational strategies to each student's predominant memory type. The use of audio materials is recommended to enhance auditory memory, while logic-based learning techniques can help develop semantic memory. Furthermore, encouraging reading may strengthen visual memory and improve the learning process. Personalizing learning strategies according to the dominant memory type can significantly optimize students' academic performance.
