Impact of Social Media on Pedagogy and Learning Outcomes in Business Management Higher Education: A Conceptual and Empirical Synthesis

Abstract: The integration of social media into higher education has transitioned from a novel communication tool to a transformative pedagogical force, particularly in business management education. This paper synthesizes recent literature (2018-2025) to analyze the impact of social media on pedagogical strategies, student engagement, and learning outcomes. Based on a systematic review of empirical studies, conceptual papers, and systematic reviews, we reveal that social media platforms—such as LinkedIn, YouTube, WhatsApp, and Instagram—significantly enhance collaborative learning, bridge theory-practice gaps through real-world scenario integration, and foster critical digital-age competencies. However, its effectiveness is contingent upon intentional design aligned with theoretical frameworks like Technological Pedagogical Content Knowledge (TPACK) and Community of Inquiry. Key challenges include potential distractions, digital fatigue, and ethical concerns. The study concludes that social media, when pedagogically grounded, offers a powerful avenue for creating responsive, student-centered learning environments. We propose a conceptual model for integration, identify limitations of the study, and suggest future research directions, including longitudinal studies and cross-cultural comparisons.
