Modulating Photonic Dirac Point by Scatterer Deformation, Rotation, and Lattice Distortion

Dirac points, linear band crossings in momentum-space, have been exhibiting extraordinary physical properties that are particularly promising for manipulating light in photonic systems. In this work, we propose a deformation-based modulation method for Dirac points in a hexagonal metallic photonic crystal. Through controlled structural deformation and rotation of the scatterer, we achieve precise spatial manipulation of the Dirac point’s positions within the Brillouin zone. Specially, under a fixed duty ratio, the geometric reconfiguration preserves the Dirac frequency stability just modifying the Dirac point position, which is crucial for generating synthetic pseudo-magnetic field. Our approach and corresponding phenomena prove universally applicable to diverse lattices and dielectric scatters, paving a new avenue for Dirac physics engineering and topological photonic devices.
