Iron deficiency conditions in chronic heart failure.
Iron deficiency conditions in patients with chronic heart failure (CHF) increase the risk of disease progression and adverse outcomes. The study evaluated the effect of long–term use of dapagliflozin in middle-aged men with CHF II-III FC, arterial hypertension and abdominal obesity. After 8 months of therapy, a significant increase in hemoglobin, hematocrit and erythrocyte levels was detected, reflecting the positive effect of the drug on erythropoiesis. However, at the same time, a decrease in the level of ferritin and serum iron was recorded, which indicates the risk of latent iron deficiency. These results emphasize the need to monitor iron metabolism during therapy with SGLT2 inhibitors.
