Deep Awareness: Redefining Consciousness Beyond Experience
This conceptual paper, “Deep Awareness: Redefining Consciousness Beyond Experience”, proposes a novel framework that reinterprets traditional notions of consciousness as a brain-based, self-referential mental state, referred to here as deep awareness. The paper critiques existing philosophical and neuroscientific frameworks and integrates cultural, developmental, and evolutionary perspectives to show how subjective experience (qualia) may be a linguistic and cognitive construct rather than an inherent reality. It includes short examples from daily life, developmental observations, and cultural influences to illustrate how awareness manifests differently across individuals. By rethinking consciousness as a functional mental state rather than a metaphysical entity, this work bridges philosophy of mind and neuroscience, offering a grounded, interdisciplinary perspective.
