Bringing Receptive Skills Mediation into Your Classroom
This article provides a practical guide for integrating mediation, a key skill from the CEFR Companion Volume, into the English language classroom. It argues that despite its importance, mediation is often absent from textbooks. The article defines mediation and its three types (mediating a text, concepts, and communication) and then offers practical principles for teachers. Using examples from a common textbook, it demonstrates how to transform standard listening and reading activities into meaningful mediation tasks, with specific adaptations for contexts like Myanmar. The piece empowers teachers to become "agents of change" by systematically adapting existing materials to develop students' real-world communication skills.
