Transformation through Faith-Based Organizations: Shri Saibaba Sansthan Trust as a Model

Abstract: Faith-Based Organisations (FBOs) are not limited to religious rituals or spiritual discourses but play a vital role in the process of social transformation. Working on the values of “compassion, service, equality and ethics”, such organisations empower the poor, marginalised and deprived sections through services like education, health, nutrition, women empowerment and disaster management. The role of these organisations becomes more effective in the multi-religious society of India. Against this backdrop, Shri Saibaba Sansthan Trust (SSST), Shirdi, is an exemplary Faith-Based Organisation. Based on the universal philosophy given by Saibaba of “Sabka Malik Ek”, this Trust is not limited to religious service only but also works multifaceted in various sectors like healthcare, education, rural development, women and child welfare, environment conservation and disaster management. Super specialty hospitals, educational institutions, scholarship schemes, skill development training, food umbrellas, infrastructure development in rural areas, as well as relief work in times of crisis like COVID-19, have brought about positive changes in the lives of lakhs of beneficiaries. This research has studied the multidimensional impact of SSST's activities such as economic, social, educational, health and psycho-spiritual. Awareness in healthcare, inclusive opportunities in education, the process of socio-economic empowerment of women, as well as the spread of religious harmony and social integration are the main features of this trust. If we compare the work of SSST with other religious organizations, it is more effective for social justice and long-term development because it is secular and human-cantered. This makes it clear that SSST is a "model of human-centered social transformation". This study is not limited to Shirdi alone, but is inspiring for other Faith-Based Organizations. If other religious organizations adopt SSST's approach of providing inclusive services through transparency, accountability, and transcending religious boundaries, it can lead to sustainable social development and inclusive transformation.
