INTRODUCTION: According to the estimates of the World Health Organization, at least 10% of populations suffer from various mental illnesses characterized by a chronic course, the presence of comorbid somatic and dental pathology against long-term intake of medical drugs, especially in patients of the psychoneurological boarding houses. In this connection, an important aspect of healthcare is improvement of the mental, somatic and dental health, support and socialization of this group of patients. AIM: To determine medical and social predictors of dental morbidity in patients of a psychoneurological boarding house. MATERIALS AND METHODS: The study design: a cross-sectional study of 135 male patients aged 35 to 65 years with a limited ability to self-care, staying in a psychoneurological boarding house of Arkhangelsk. All the patients underwent a basic dental, including a periodontal, examination. To elucidate predictors of dental pathology, the level of compliance and the ability to adequately self-assess the dental health was determined. Statistical processing of the data obtained in the examination was performed using the Stata 17.0 application program package. RESULTS: The following main medical and social predictors of dental morbidity were identified: the existence of a mental illness, side effects of psychotropic drugs, smoking, low compliance level in the prevention and treatment of dental pathology, inadequate self-assessment of the condition of the mouth organs and tissues. CONCLUSION: The analyzed parameters serve as a basis for identification of separate groups of patients with similar dental problems and medical and social predictors, for determining the individualized peculiarities of dental care organization in inpatient psychiatric social institutions, which allows for creating a basis for the development of targeted dental programs and more purposefully provide dental health to individuals with mental diseases.
