Institutional and Discursive Norm Violations in Electoral Campaigns: Exploring Direct and Cumulative Effects
This study investigates the extent to which citizens, in the context of an electoral multidimensional choice, punish violations of both institutional norms (e.g., electoral integrity, media freedom) and discursive norms (e.g., truth, civility, representative thinking). Crucially, our study will assess the degree to which the impact of transgressions of institutional versus discursive norms differs, compared to classic predictors of vote choice, such as partisanship and policy congruence.
