ASEAN w procesie budowania równowagi geopolitycznej w Azji Południowo-Wschodnie

The purpose of this article is to provide an assessment of the geopolitical situation in Southeast Asia, with particular emphasis on the role of China and the United States. Based on sociological surveys and own observations, the level of sympathy of ASEAN societies towards these powers is estimated. They show that the influence of the two powers balances each other, although in recent times it has tilted to China's side. The desired direction for the evolution of the institutional structure of the countries of the region to ensure the balancing of the two powers' influence and stability and development is outlined. The diplomacy of the entire ASEAN Association and its members was evaluated positively (although with some reservations), boiling down mainly, to strengthening cooperation with other powers, especially India, Russia, Australia, South Korea and the European Union, as well as the creation of minilateral and multilateral structures with the participation or at the initiative of ASEAN and individual members of the Association.
