SHYNE: THE DEVELOPED LEARNING ACTIVITY SHEETS IN INTRODUCTION TO THE PHILOSOPHY OF THE HUMAN PERSON FOR GRADE 12 SENIOR HIGH SCHOOL STUDENTS
This study developed MELC-aligned Learning Activity Sheets (LAS) in Introduction to the Philosophy of the Human Person (IPHP) for Grade 12 students. Grounded in constructivist and behaviorist learning theories and guided by the ADDIE instructional design model, the research aimed to address difficulties in teaching abstract philosophical concepts by providing contextualized, scaffolded, and student-centered materials. The study followed a developmental-descriptive research design. Experts validated the content and format of the LAS, while a pretest-posttest approach measured student performance before and after the intervention. Fifteen (15) Social Science educators and thirty-five (35) Grade 12 HUMSS students from Camp Vicente Lim Integrated School participated in the study. Validation tools assessed four key components: objectives (𝑋=3.78), directions (𝑋=3.78), topics (𝑋=3.76), and practical exercises (𝑋=3.81), all rated Highly Valid. The LAS also gained Highly Acceptable ratings in clarity (𝑋=3.78), usefulness (𝑋=3.80), presentation (𝑋=3.84), and suitability (𝑋=3.83). Results from the pretest (𝑋=70.14) and posttest (𝑋=87.60) showed a statistically significant improvement in learners' academic performance (p < 0.05). The study concludes that the LAS effectively improved student comprehension, critical thinking, and engagement with IPHP concepts. The materials provide a viable pedagogical model for integrating philosophy with real-life contexts, making abstract ideas more accessible. These findings support the adoption of well-structured, localized instructional resources to enhance the delivery of philosophy education in the senior high school curriculum.
