Community, Connection, And Adversity: AV Archiving in Southeast Asia, Asia and the Pacific
SEAPAVAA is the Southeast Asian and Pacific Audiovisual Archive Association that, since 1996, brings together institutions, associations, and individuals from across the region with local peculiarities, distinct diversities, and reciprocal challenges. This dossier features diverse perspectives from current SEAPAVAA members and associates, each of whom address local insights into and critical concerns about the state of audiovisual preservation in the Global South. Like many other archival institutions across the globe, SEAPAVAA members face mutual and widespread criticalities such as the impact of extreme warm and humid climates, the rapid and unsustainable technological obsolescence, limited funding and specialized skills, and the challenge of dealing with unresponsive, negligent, and even hostile, government bodies and central institutions.
