Cross-Cultural Management in Globalized Supply Chains: Challenges, Strategies, and Performance Implications in a Post-Pandemic Economy

In the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic, global supply chains have been profoundly reshaped by severe disruptions including an approximate 79% of firms reporting heightened resilience efforts, 82% increasing inventory buffering, and 66% citing lack of visibility as a principal challenge which have revealed how cross-cultural misalignments in communication norms, decision-making styles, trust expectations, leadership practices, and conflict resolution across geographically and institutionally diverse partners significantly amplify supply chain inefficiencies and risk, prompting organizations to adopt strategic interventions such as cross-cultural training, digital collaboration tools, intercultural leadership development, diversified sourcing, local/regional partner engagement and governance structures that embed cultural intelligence and adaptive communication protocols, which, based on integration with dynamic capabilities and resource-based views, mediate the influence of cultural alignment on key performance outcomes—resilience, agility, cost efficiency, delivery speed, innovation—and that a conceptual framework is needed to map how cultural distance interacts with technology adoption (e.g., real-time visibility, AI/analytics, digital platforms), leadership style (participative vs hierarchical), and governance mechanisms to optimize performance in post-pandemic global supply chains.
