Evaluating Sources for Public Health: A Librarian Collaboration to Support Nursing Students in Clinicals
OBJECTIVE: The public health nursing course at a mid-sized university requested the expertise of two subject librarians (nursing and education) to teach students about various library resources available to them for use at their public health clinical sites, and how to evaluate such sources, regardless of type. METHODS: The librarians created a 75 minute instructional session covering a variety of source types and evaluation methods, and students were given an assigned population and health topic to research. Presenters will focus on source evaluation based on population. RESULTS/CONCLUSIONS: Results of the post-class assessment and in-class activity will be shared along with a more detailed description of all that went into creating an appropriate and useful information literacy instructional session.
