THE ROLE OF TRANSLATION IN ENGLISH LANGUAGE TEACHING: CURRENT PRACTICES AND FUTURE PROSPECTS
In the context of globalized education, translation is increasingly recognized as an effective pedagogical tool in English language teaching (ELT), particularly in environments where English is learned as a foreign language (EFL). This paper examines the role of translation in the EFL classroom, assessing its value in facilitating linguistic development, enhancing vocabulary acquisition, strengthening grammatical understanding, and promoting intercultural competence. While traditional communicative approaches often downplay the use of translation, recent perspectives argue for its reintegration as a legitimate and productive teaching strategy.
