MANAGEMENT OF MEDOJA GRANTHI (LIPOMA) BY JALAUKAVACHARAN: A CASE REPORT.

Introduction: Medoja Granthi is characterized by a smooth, painless swelling that may vary in size and occasionally causes itching. It is primarily composed of excessive Meda (fat tissue). In modern medical science, this condition is comparable to lipoma, which consists of mature adipocytes with uniform nuclei similar to those found in normal adult fat tissue. Materials and Methods: A 42-year-old female presented with a swelling in the left supraclavicular region that had been gradually increas-ing over the past two months. The patient had no significant medical history of systemic illness. On the local examination, a palpable cystic swelling was observed. Based on clinical features, it was diagnosed as Medoja Granthi (lipoma). The patient underwent Ayurvedic treatment, which included Jalaukavacharana (leech thera-py), application of Sthanik lepa (herbal paste), followed by Viddhakarma (therapeutic puncturing), along with oral Ayurvedic medications (Arogyavardhini Vati 250 mg, Kanchanar Guggulu 250 mg, Sukshma Triphala Vati 250 mg - Two tablets of each were administered orally three times a day with lukewarm water for 14 days.) Results and Conclusion: This case highlights a successful Ayurvedic management of Medoja Granthi (lipoma), suggesting that lipoma can be correlated with Medoja Granthi based on similar clinical features. Three sittings of Jalaukavacharana were conducted, and Sthanik lepa was applied twice daily for 14 days. This line of treatment follows the Rakta-shuddhikar approach in Ayurveda. The therapy yielded positive results without any adverse effects. The case report underscores the potential effectiveness of Ayurvedic protocols in managing lipoma.
