Brimming: A fire burns. Water flushes out the chemical leak. Will a historical moment rise to the surface?
Brimming (Jennifer Dysart, 2022) is an experimental film and interactive website made possible by a string of human errors beginning with an environmental disaster that happened 50 years ago. Brimming uses exposure under the cover of obscurity to speak about ethical concerns related to the re-use of archived audiovisual material with legal restrictions on use. For this issue of Public, and utilizing a suggestion from the audience at GAVA 2024, Jennifer Dysart troubles the authority of the archive and of the visual image with the creation of AI images, generated using a written description of the restricted material.
