Abstract

The importance of ethics in human life is immense. Only through the practice of morality can people guide themselves in the right way. Every religion in the world has countless examples of moral practice. Buddhism is not an exception to this rule. Buddhism firmly establishes morality as its foundation. Every human being is advised to receive this education throughout the Tipiṭaka, and directions are also given to follow. Vinay Piṭaka places particular emphasis on this moral practice. Every Buddhist monk places great importance on practicing morality. The practice of about 227 Shīlas, including Pañchashīla, Ashtashīla, and Dasahshīla, is reminiscent of that word. Householders observe Pañchashīla and Ashtashīla, and Buddhist monks observe a total of 227 shīlas, mainly to strengthen their moral practice. Besides, bhikkhunis observe 227 shīla, more than 10 shīla. Total shīla is 311. When householders, monks, nuns, and common people engage in this practice, their morality strengthens. Therefore, the discussion article specifically highlights the significance of Buddha's moral teachings in the context of today's social system.
