TO EVALUATE THE ROLE OF SHIRODHARA AND PRAVALA PISHTI (ADMINISTERED ORALLY) IN POST-MENOPAUSAL WOMEN, WITH A SPECIFIC FOCUSON THE MANAGEMENT OF HOT FLUSHES
Menopause is defined as the cessation of menstruation for 12 consecutive months due to the decline in ovarian function, leading to permanent amenorrhea. This transition, typically occurring around the age of 50, is described in Ayurveda by Acharya Sushruta under the term Jara Pakva Avastha. The menopausal phase is marked by significant hormonal changes that often result in various physiological and psychological symptoms, including hot flushes. While conventional treatments like Hormone Replacement Therapy (HRT) can be effective, they are associated with potential risks such as vaginal bleeding, endometrial hyperplasia, and an increased risk of certain cancers. Ayurveda offers a holistic and natural approach to managing menopausal symptoms, aiming to promote overall health and well-being. Objective: To evaluate the role of Shirodhara and Pravala Pishti (administered orally) in post-menopausal women, with a specific focus on the management of hot flushes. Materials and Methods: Ninety post-menopausal women experiencing hot flushes were randomly divided into three groups: Group A received Pravala Pishti orally, Group B underwent Shirodhara therapy, and Group C received both Pravala Pishti and Shirodhara. Results: All groups showed some improvement in hot flush symptoms; however, Group C, which received the combined therapy, demonstrated significantly better outcomes compared to Groups A and B.
