Towards hybrid living materials on bio-based composite scaffolds

The LIVEMAT project focuses on the development of Hybrid Living Materials (HLMs) by merging bio-based polymer scaffolds with metabolically active microorganisms. By embedding algae, cyanobacteria, and fungi into a tailored PLA-based matrix, LIVEMAT aims to create living surfaces capable of carbon sequestration, photosynthesis, oxygen release, pollutant capture, UV protection, and antimicrobial activity.
