MINERAÇÃO E DESENVOLVIMENTO SUSTENTÁVEL NO BRASIL: DA SOCIEDADE DE RISCO À CONSTRUÇÃO DE FUTUROS MELHORES

Abstract This research analyzes Contemporary Mining in Brazil, with the aim of going beyond the extractivist view and demonstrating its potential as a vector for sustainable development. The adopted methodology, which combined a thorough literature review with the analysis of successful cases in Mining, allowed for the use of theoretical frameworks such as Liquid Modernity to contextualize the sector’s challenges. The research findings indicate that simple legal compliance is insufficient, making the pursuit of a genuine Social License to Operate and a robust ESG governance crucial. The research argues that mineral wealth, when strategically applied through the CFEM and PFM, can translate into a legacy of prosperity and resilience for communities. In short, the work concludes that Sustainable Mining is the only path for the sector’s future, transforming the activity into a driver for the changes of the future where Sustainability is the pillar that supports progress and well-being.
