The Tamil people who lived in Kumari district during the period when it was annexed to the Thirukocchi Kingdom were greatly affected socially. Those involved in the struggle for India's independence were punishable in the Tirukochi government. In this situation, after the country gained independence from the East India Company, the Tirukkotchi government did not want to unite with India and demanded a separate government. As a result, the Tamil people living there protested in the Punnapparai and Vayalar areas against the lack of freedom they received even after the country gained independence. Thousands of lives were lost in this. Following this, the area inhabited by Tamil people was merged with Tamil Nadu. The socio-historical problems faced by the Tamil people in this context have been examined based on Ponnilan's novel 'Pudiya Mottukal'.
