Identifying the Risks Associated with Public Wi-Fi Networks and How Users Can Protect Themselves Against Them
Public Wi-Fi networks are widely used but present significant security risks that many users remain unaware of. This project investigates the vulnerabilities within Wi-Fi protocols, user behaviour when connecting to public networks, and methods for mitigating threats. A thematic literature review was conducted, covering both technical and behavioural aspects of Wi-Fi security. Recommendations are provided for improving user safety, encouraging better industry practices, and strengthening protocol adoption. The study contributes to public awareness of cybersecurity risks in everyday environments.
