Project Valuation Reference Dataset: Companies from Major US and European Indices, Grouped by Sector and Industry

This document provides a reference dataset of securities traded on major American and European stock exchanges as of September 28, 2025. Companies are grouped by sector and industry, following a classification system based on Yahoo Finance and complemented by methodological adaptations inspired by the Global Industry Classification Standard (GICS). The resulting taxonomy introduces intermediate levels (sub-sectors and super-industries) and a consistent five-digit coding system to facilitate data analysis and filtering. The dataset is primarily intended for educational purposes, supporting the study of project valuation and economic viability in engineering. Students and researchers can use the structured information to identify relevant benchmark companies and financial indicators, such as the Beta factor, to inform their project assessments.
