Design and Implementation of a Programming Class Using Project-Based Learning

Recently, interest in information technology education from elementary school to university has increased worldwide, aiming to foster professionals who will lead the digital society. Korea has reorganized elementary, middle, and high school curricula to emphasize the importance of digital literacy and implemented the Software-Focused University Project to foster creative and convergent professionals who will lead the Fourth Industrial Revolution. This has led to the establishment of software education as both a major and elective subject. This study designed and implemented class aiming to improve interest in, understanding of, and learning motivation toward programming education. After applying the designed program class, the results of learning outcomes were analyzed. The results revealed that the class improved students’ interest in, understanding of, and learning motivation toward programming education. Moreover, the students reported high satisfaction with the class.
