Supply chains in post covid Africa
The pandemic threatened a wide range of supply chains in Africa, which had historical weaknesses, ranging in the disruption of sourcing, transportation, and storage systems on both the national and regional levels. Although most of the initial narrative was concerned with the crisis management, this article takes us up a notch and brings forth a critical framework to develop resilient, adaptive, and inclusive supply chains within the continent. Relying on the current studies and the post-pandemic diagnostics, it shows the strategic opportunities of localized sourcing, digital visibility, and the complemented policy-driven decentralization to decrease the dependence, responsiveness, and sustainability in the long-term perspective. The paper arrives at the conclusion that the post COVID recovery in Africa provides a once-in-a-lifetime chance to abandon the older paradigms and integrate resiliency to the foundation of African logistics.
